Massage therapy is a holistic, drug-free healing art that utilizes hands-on manipulation of your body’s muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. It’s also a popular alternative health option to alleviate soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.
Massage therapists improve the circulation of blood through the body in order to speed the removal of metabolic waste products from muscles by skillfully kneading the muscles, ligaments, and other soft tissues to increase their flexibility.
The key difference that separates our massage therapy department from spas, home treatments, and other massage centers, is that the massages are medically supervised. Appropriate treatment plans are created to give each patient the highest level of care available.
Yes, there are a variety of massage modalities. At Advanced Healthcare Solutions we offer:
Swedish Massage is a rhythmic, flowing massage to the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms, and legs. It is used to relax the body and mind. This modality also improves circulation and can help lower blood pressure.
Deep Tissue Massage is a muscle-specific technique used to alleviate specific pain complaints. The hand strokes used will be deeper. The pressure should not be painful and you should be able to breathe normally and speak during the stroke. The intent is to lengthen and broaden the muscle tissue to alleviate the built up tension.
Sports Massage is a modality used to help prepare an athlete both mentally and physically for an upcoming event. Maintenance massage and pre-event massage can help prevent injury as well as reduce post-event soreness. It is a fast-paced massage done while the client is fully clothed; attention is paid to all muscle groups.
Preconception massage focuses on cleansing, balancing and relaxing the body physically and energetically while also relaxing her mind so she can be ready to conceive. Preconception massages include: Cranial and sacral holds, reflexology, abdominal massage, friction massage to pelvis and spine, and pelvic rocking.
Pregnancy massage is a tranquil relaxation that reduce stress and provides relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and myofascial pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs. Benefits to the pregnant woman include increase in blood and lymph circulation, reduction of stress on weight-bearing joints, improved outcome of labor, eased labor pain, enhanced pliability of skin and underlying tissues, while providing support for the new mother during the physical and emotional strains of mothering.
Post-partum massage is ideally done 3-10 days after birth. It focuses on relaxing the body, toning the uterus and bringing the hips back together.
Hot Stone Massage uses stones in two ways during the massage. One is to impart heat onto the body by laying stones under the client with a layer of fabric between the client and stone (a sheet or towel) and/or on top of the client, again upon a towel. Stone layout typically will be along both sides of the spine, on top and in the hands. While these layout stones are delivering concentrated centers of heat, the therapist is simultaneously massaging the client with oiled, heated stones held in the palm of the hand with firm strokes along the muscles of the legs, arms, and torso areas.
An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the “gliding” of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to the client. The hardness of the stones makes for a deep tissue massage.
The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increases the blood flow to the area being worked on which further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation and the relaxation of the muscles also aids in mental relaxation, which is key when a Therapist is attempting to work into deeper muscles of the body.
Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table specially designed for your comfort.
Most massage techniques are performed with the client unclothed; however, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort. You will be properly draped throughout your session to keep you warm and comfortable. You will be covered with a sheet and a light blanket. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. The drapes will be well secured at all times.
You and your therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, hands, legs, feet, head, neck, and shoulders. You will not be touched near your genitals or breasts.
Make yourself comfortable. We will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask questions about massage in general or about the particular technique you are receiving. Always feel free to speak up if you are uncomfortable with the stroke or the amount of pressure being used.
